About IvritNet

IvritNet (IRC.CO.IL) is a dedicated Hebrew-speaking IRC network, founded by oackly on September 21, 1999.

For over two decades, it has been a hub for real-time conversations, community discussions, and technical support.

The network was created after the closure of the hebrew channel on DALnet and a mass ban of Israeli users, providing a stable and independent home for Hebrew-speaking IRC users.

Pioneering IRC Innovation

IvritNet was a pioneer in IRC innovation, introducing features that were not available on other networks at the time:

User Host-Masking

IvritNet was among the first IRC networks to implement host-masking, allowing users to hide their real IP addresses for better privacy and security.

Hebrew Nicknames

Unlike most IRC networks that only supported Latin-based nicknames, IvritNet was the first to introduce full support for Hebrew nicknames, making it easier for users to chat in their native language.

Unique Services

IvritNet also developed its own unique services, since no existing solutions were close to the real DALnet services. These services were initially written in TCL by Kobi_S, based on DALnet's service concepts but entirely original in implementation. After Kobi_S left the network, the services were maintained by oackly and Super_B to ensure the network's stability and continued operation. Later, after returning to the network, Kobi_S rewrote the services in C to significantly improve performance and functionality.

NickServ

ChanServ
